Welcome home to your creekside, mid-century, sylvan sanctuary nestled atop Lion Creek ravine! Conveniently located in a cul de sac with ample off-street parking, easy access to Hwy 13 & 580. From the street, it seems a simple, level-in suburban home, but step in and discover the unexpected, tranquil indoor and outdoor spaces that make living (and working) here like moving to the country! A xeriscaped front garden with shrubs, cacti, grasses and even a planting bed for herbs and veggies. The house presents a mid-century, ranch silhouette with cheerful mullioned-glassed double doors under a peak-roofed porch.
The main house flows through a light-filled, timeless, versatile floorplan, with bamboo floors, glass doors, and 2 bedroom wings, in a neutral palette with green and brick accents. Relax in the living room in front of the wood-manteled brick fireplace or slide open a wall of glass to a spacious lanai under pergola, perfect for afternoon reading, entertaining or kids’ play. Entertain from the open kitchen with gray floors and cabinets, white counters, stainless appliances, bbq/brick oven, washer/dryer. Breakfast bar opens to dining nook, sliding glass doors to a newer pavered patio with Roman bench, great for al-fresco dining and on the way to the in-ground pool.
Retreat to two quiet bedroom wings. Primary bedroom has a dressing room, two closets and adjacent bath with tub and newly tiled stall shower with rain shower head. The other bedroom wing is just steps from the primary bedroom. It is comprised of two bedrooms adjoined by large family “play” room, meditation/reading deck nestled among the trees & own bath (w/ exit to pool).
Around the in-ground pool patio are a myriad of spaces for entertaining, leisure, inspiration or contemplating the live-oak ravine and redwood tree. There are decks and patios, a trumpet vine-covered fence and room to indulge your gardening urges. Two outbuildings add potential living or working space. The smaller one with closet could be a home office, classroom or guest room. The larger one is a converted 3-car garage, with electrical and plumbing, ready to build out as an in-law, or use as-is for home gym, family rumpus, dance/art studio, your next start-up, or whatever your heart desires.
Set among gorgeous Oakland Hills walks, hikes, bikes, and parkland. Stroll to Redwood Heights Elementary & Park, Famous Jordan Park. Short drives to wilderness parks: Redwood Regional, Chabot Space Center, Joaquin Miller, Shepherd and Dimond Canyons, Huckleberry Botanic, Sibley Volcano.

4545 Toyon Place Improvement List
If you were to ask a local Realtor for a real “family neighborhood” in Oakland, Redwood Heights would be at the top of their list. There is a real sense of community here!
Redwood Heights is a mostly middle-class and highly diverse residential neighborhood in the hills of Oakland. It is centered on Redwood Road, which was once a logging road. It includes Award Winning Redwood Heights Elementary School (Two Blocks Away) and a recreation center that doubles as an after-school daycare. The community loves the Redwood Heights Recreation Center because it offers a great range of programs for tots, teens, and kids in-between, as well as adults - it is used by locals of all ages for weekend gatherings and classes including dance, cooking, and karate. In fact, the park at the Rec Center is under development to be an incredible park of bocce ball, pickle ball & basketball courts, swings, skateboard area and lawn. The Redwood Heights Neighborhood Association is dedicated to preserving a sense of community through events such as block parties and barbecues and of course, the summer outdoor movie schedule will continue at the park complete with popcorn!
The homes in Redwood Heights date mainly from the 1920s-1950s and vary greatly in style, from craftsman, to "storybook," to midcentury ranch; the first development in the area was Avenue Terrace. There is a large rock/stone "obelisk" on the corner of 35th Ave and Victor that says "Avenue Terrace" and may have once been a marker for the development. In this area there is also Avenue Terrace “Jordan” Park, one of the best young kid’s parks with swings, toys and level grassy lawn.
Redwood Regional Park, just up the hill, offers nearly 40 miles of hiking and mountain biking trails through 1,380 acres of redwood, evergreen, and chaparral forests and open space AND there is a Peets, Red Boy Pizza, and Chinese restaurant just up the street in the Lincoln Square Shopping Area.
Laurel District is just down the hill
The Laurel District has an array of popular restaurants, coffee shops, bars/brewery, the best pizza, Farmer Joe’s, a great hardware store, gyms, yoga, and the fantastic annual Laurel District Fair. Mills College is nature next door with its exquisite grounds that are wonderful to stroll through.
